Russian Homemade Recipies for Beautiful Skin

Being beautiful doesn’t cost much money, rather it costs the daily effort. Majority of Russian women are big believers in homemade recipes for skin care which we pass to each other from generation to generation. In this post, I will share with you the most popular and easy ones for perfect skin. Maybe you will find similarities from your grandma’s recipes. Anyway, I think they are worth to try if you are nonallergic to natural ingredients of course.

1. Ice with Chamomile

Ice with chamomile is a great way to refresh your skin every morning. It helps blood circulation to flow and give every cell of your skin great amount of nutrients. Ice does magic to the skin. To prepare it, make a tea with chamomile, wait till it gets intense and cold, then place it in the fridge in ice cubes.

2. Milk Bath & Smetana Mask (sour cream or yogurt)

Dairy products for skin beauty have been around us forever. Even Cleopatra and other queens loved to have milk baths. So why not to feel yourselves as a queen by doing it at home. For the full body milk bath just buy a big bottle of high-fat milk and pour all of it in your bath, mixing with warm water. This will be more than enough to get all necessary acids and hydrating fats. Your skin will become magically soft due to acids which removes dead cells from the surface of your skin and renourishing it. I personally love doing masks with Smetana.

Smetana Mask acts in a similar manner just it is more comfortable to do it for the face. Smetana is the Russian high fat yogurt or sour cream. Try to get the best possible at your store. Buy just plain and organic, apply it for 10 min on the face then rinse. You will see that your skin became like a skin of a newborn baby. I personally just love this natural mask.

3. Honey Face Mask

Honey has a super high antibacterial and nutritional values. Therefore, it is perfect for people who are dealing with acnes and want to pump the skin with high-quality micronutrients. It will nurish your skin with lots of vitamins and minirals as well as kill bacterias. Also, you can do honey face massage to increase blood circulation. After applying honey on the face, start tapping all around.

4. Sauna

Sauna is a big thing in our culture. If you are healthy person in general, do not miss an opportunity by regularly visiting the sauna. Just sitting there for 5-10 minutes tremendously will improve your skin by huge detoxifying features. Moreover, by increasing blood circulation you will get rid of some fat and cellulite. I personally like to do it in the evening after good workout.

5. Apple Vinegar

We use apple vinegar to create our own face toner. It has a natural fruit acidity; therefore, helps to remove dead cells and make your face tone more even. Also, you can use it for the hair to make them shinier and healthier. Instruction: Mix in a little bottle, apple vinegar with natural water (the vinegar should be around 10%). When your face already clean, pour a small amount on cotton pad and go over the face. Do it in the morning and evening. For hair with the same ratio 1:10, rinse hair and scalp after washing.

Top 10 Restaurants in Moscow, Summer 2017

During 6 months living in Moscow, I developed a list of favorite restaurants. So this posts is about those to which I like to go and consider to be a wonderful choice for summer days. Many in the list below are my weekly favorites and I would suggest to visit them to anybody who travels to Moscow. As a tourist, it is hard to find out where do locals really go so let me reveal the secret for you.

  1. Bolshoi by Novikov Group – Petrovka 3/6

This place is one of my favorite in the past couple of month. I just love their white cozy terrace. The quality of food is always excellent, plus they have great seasonal choices. In their menu, you will see lots of Russian and Europian dishes, as well as great tea and coffee selection. Also, for the sweets lovers, they have the best desserts in Moscow which you wouldn’t be able to resist. Service in Bolshoi just as in a 5-star hotel, beyond excellence.  Definitely is a must to visit this summer.

2. Klevo by Novikov Group – Petrovka 27

This restaurant is on my list of favorites since the first time I try it. However, they don’t have a terrace, it is hard to park near, this restaurant you would never notice if you just pass by, and around it lots of road construction. But the food is incredible and this is why I love it. Once you enter you will be in a Mediterranean restaurant with a super cozy Greek interior. Perfect for a date in a beautiful rainy day. Mostly they serve seafood so you can expect crabs, fish, oysters and etc. After you meal, I would recommend you to try their strawberry cheesecake, in my opinion, it is the best in town.

3. Aist by Novikov Group – Malaya Bronnaya 8/1

Every summer Aist’s terrace is one of the most popular places in Moscow. In fact, perfect restaurant to hang out with friends and order lots of food to share. The restaurant is quite big with three floors and the terrace where people can smoke shisha. Their menu has a lot of fish and meat dishes, I can’t call it gourmet experience but rather a place to have a good meal and drink. Personally, I just love their terrace on the 3rd floor where you can relax and enjoy your evening.

4. Babel – 1 Nikolozchepovskiy per. 6/2

Babel is a proper fine dining restaurant inspired by Odessa cuisine. Each dish there looks and tastes just amazing. Moreover, interior inside is super modern and elegant without being too posh. The restaurant is quite big with two floors indoor and terrace on the ruff top. In addition, they do little live music concerts every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I consider it as a perfect place for a classy date. If you want to enjoy food without a crowd around you, then it is the place to go.

5. Uilliam’s by Ginza Project – Malaya Bronnaya 20a

This restaurant has been my best for quite a time. I already wrote about it in my previous posts. In Uilliam’s they have a very small menu but everything on it is super delicious. Besides, during the summer incredible vibes are going on. In general, it is a very crowded place but on the weekend you would see even a bigger crowd standing in front of the restaurant with aperitifs. If you find a spot where to squeeze yourself then you are good. The place is so tiny but very cozy.

6. Erwin – Kutuzovskiy pr. 2/1 build. 6

I come on a weekly basis to this restaurant since I moved to Moscow. They have great choices of seafood; in fact, every dish which I tried was super delicious. Plus, in the summer they have a nice terrace where guests can smoke shisha. I don’t smoke but nowadays many people do. Also, the ambiance inside is very warm and happy. In Moscow, it is number one destination to celebrate birthdays. The only problem with Erwin is that you have to do a reservation at least a week in advance because they are always fully booked.

7. Cafe Moloko – Bolshaya Dmitrovka 7/5

Very nice coffee shop with elegant ambiance and great prices. Perfect place to come for aperitifs with friends and sit for a couple of hours. The menu has a big variety of salads. I tried the majority of them so I think generally food is good, except desserts. For sweets, they do not have anything special which I was amazed of.  However, beverage selection is great, excellent coffee, tea, wines, and cocktails. Plus in summer they opened a little terrace right on a glamorous street, Bolshaya Dmitrovka.

8. Vogue Cafe by Novikov Group – Kuznetskiy Most 7/9

I like Vogue Cafe for many many years and this summer nothing changed between us. It is a great place to have a lunch or a couple of drinks in the evening. They have everything I like in the menu (salads, sushi, pasta, fish, meat), the food is super delicious and the portions are very decent. Also, for sweet life lovers, there is a great selection of desserts. The cherry on top, Vogue Cafe located exactly near TZUM so perfect place to visit after your shopping.

9. Coffemania – Belorusskaya (Lesnaya 5c) and Bolshaya Nikitskaya 13/6

These coffee shops are super popular in Moscow and located almost in every area. However, my favorites are only two branches on Belorusskaya and Bolshaya Nikitskaya. I like to come here for a coffee, tea or glass of wine. In Coffemania the food is also good but only for a lunch time. After all, it is a cafe and they specialize in drinks. Therefore, if you want to have a great beverage with a lovely dessert, it will be the right place to go.

10. Bro&N Pizzeria by Novikov Group – Malaya Bronnaya 27/14

This is a new restaurant in Moscow which became very popular from the day they opened. Almost all the time you will see a queue to get inside so be patient, it is worse to stand. Food quality is excellent plus the prices are cheap. Everything in the menu has an Italian touch; in fact, the chef is Italian himself. I tried their specialty, pizza and it was just wonderful. Desserts and coffee are great as well. Since I adore Italian cuisine, I enjoy this place so much. Therefore, if you like pizza with a glass of wine, it is the perfect restaurant for both.

Hope you enjoyed this review and that is going to be a helpful guide for Moscow travelers. I live in downtown so all my choices are located in the center which is perfect for tourists. Last but not least, I know there are a couple of more fashionable and delicious places which are just opened but I haven’t tried them yet. Therefore, soon I will reveal more of trendy restaurants here. Let me know if you have something to add or you want to share your experience.

Uilliam’s on Patriarchy Lake, Moscow

IMG_1667

A couple of months back a friend of mine introduced me to a wonderful restaurant calls Uilliam’s. It is located at the most fashionable and cool spot in Moscow, Patriarchy Lake. In fact, a majority of the best Moscow restaurants for young generation is there. From the first time that I tried Uilliam’s, I liked it so much. They have a very small menu but everything full of creativity and excellent ingredients. Here you will try dishes that you won’t try in any other place. The restaurant inside is quite small and you might feel sitting super close to each other but in my opinion, this is what it makes so cozy. Perfect to spend cold days in such a warm and lovely ambiance. Besides, delicious main menu, Uilliam’s serves excellent breakfasts. From all people that I know everyone loved this restaurant, except one vegan girl. But would make sense because they cook what they cook and it is impossible to tailor on the go some unique dishes. Personally, I have been there for around 10 times and always enjoy my food and time at Uilliam’s. Louis Vuitton Event Spring’17, Moscow

I always love Louis Vuitton events and was so happy to join my favorite brand this spring for the launch of Cruise Collection for Men. Everything was happening at LV suit on top of the 4 floor LV shop in GUM on the Red Square. Spectacular place with chic design. The event in itself was in a playful format with lots of champagne and whiskey. There were two games about sailing, first to create a secret letter using sailing symbols and second was about learning how to do different types of knots. I had really so much fun. I must say, LV marketing department did a great job. In fact, comparing with LV events that I have been in Dubai, here creativity was on the next level. Since it was cruise collecting, all clothes had lots of sailing elements and casual design. I feel it would be perfect for men who love to spend time on yacht and boat.

Grand-Café Dr.Живаго, Moscow

IMG_8946

One of my absolute favorite places in Moscow is Dr.Zhivago located in Hotel “National”. I come very regularly to this place at least once a week. To get a table is quite hard there so if you have a particular day and time you are planning to visit, book a week in advance especially for dinner time. Once I came with a friend without a reservation, they told us that we are second in the queue and the waiting time will be around 20 min. We waited 2 hours, then we gave up and ate in the hotel lobby. However, the other day I came for a lunch on my birthday and I was lucky to have a lovely meal on such memorable day. So to be sure you will get a table, better to call and make a reservation.

IMG_8945

The food and prices in Dr.Zhivago are amazing. They have a great choice of Russian cuisine, and dishes prepared in an excellent way with a beautiful presentation. In fact, I think it is the best place to be introduced to our cuisine. I tried almost everything from the menu and all dishes were excellent. I don’t even have a favorite dish there as in most of restaurants because I really like everything they cook. Regarding the prices, you will be  surprised that in such luxury restaurant you can have a meal and a drink for $20 or a starter, main, dessert and wine just for $50. So it is up to you to stay within a budget or to go crazy and try everything. Last but not least, the interior is just lovely, done in the SSSR style but with luxury modern touch. If you are planning to travel to Moscow, Dr.Zhivago is a must visit place.

Restaurant Valenok by Novikov Group, Moscow

Novikov Group owns one of the best restaurants in Moscow as well as grows internationally in other cosmopolitan cities. Each restaurant by this group has a unique concept,  beautiful design, and excellent food. Therefore, when the new one opened, I run to try it. Valenok quickly became a very trendy place between different generations and incomes. The concept of this place is contemporary Russian cuisine with good prices and nice ambiance. Here you can get a set menu for business lunch as well as a la carte menu with a big variety of Russian dishes.

If you are traveling to Moscow on a budget then come during work days between 12 pm and 4 pm, you will be pleasantly surprised that you can get a starter, main course and a drink just for 380 rub ($6.5). I honestly never seen lower prices in fancy restaurants for excellent quality food. Plus, everyday set are changing and it is always a surprise for guests. For those with a bigger budget and specific food preferences, you will definitely find lots of nice dishes in the main menu. I went there a couple of times and everything I tried was fresh and delicious. For example, last time I had sald with calmares, red caviar and glass of wine. I believe for all of these, I paid around 2,000 rub ($34) .

So if you want to take a grasp of traditional Russian cousine, Valenok would be a soft start. To have a real caltural exchange soon I will share with you other wonderfull places to visit. Last but not least, the name of the restaurant, valenok came from traditional Russian boot made of wool. Nowadays, people don’t wear them much but you still can see valenki in some villages or in souvenir stores.

  • Location – Valenok on Tzvetnoy Blvd., Moscow

Wine Tasting at Caudal, Moscow

I always wanted to be a wine expert or at least understand the differents between them. Once, I even tried to look for some courses on the internet but I found only something for barmen which were way too expensive for my little interest to be a good wine shopper. Luckily, a friend of mine invited me at Caudal shop for wine testing. It was a small class between four friends with two bottles of wine. In this setting, an expert of Caudal store gave us lots of information about wines and taught us how to distinguish differences between them.

That evening we were talking about and tasting white wines, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. For me it was such an interesting experience as I am really into red wines. So I got to know the sides of wines I never tasted. I guess if it is chosen well both white and red can be quite pleasant. The most interesting fact I learned that all wines are actually white from a very beginning. The step on which wine becomes red it is when skin and seeds of grapes been processed and added to the wine. Therefore, an end product can have different shades of red and yellowish. Our first wine, Sauvignon Blanc was with apple notes more fruity and yellowish compared to Riesling. Riesling had a stronger smell, some people refer to it sometime as the petrol smell or other unpleasant scenes. Nevertheless, both were excellent and change their flavors with each sip. Here are few tips on what to pay attention when tasting the wine,

  • take the glass and look at the color of the wine, it has to be clear with either ruby color or canary shades
  • then smell the wine, pay attention on notes you feel
  • take a sip but don’t swallow, move the wine around your mouth for a couple of seconds

This will help you to learn more about wines and its differences while your drinking this wonderfully mysterious beverage. Last but not least, at the end of this fun experience we got each a membership card at Caudal shop with 8 free wine tasting. I guess with such membership I would definitely become an expert on the subject.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SS’17, Moscow

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is one of most glamorous events in Russia. All runways there are fully dedicated to the local designers. Therefore, if you are want to get a grasp of Russian fashion, it is the best place to start. I attended MBFW for the first time and I was honestly impressed with the organization and level of the whole event. The occasion took place on 12-17 October 2016 at TSVZ Manej which is located in the heart of Moscow next to Kremlin. All designers were presenting their Spring/Summer 2017 collection. I saw so many outfits in each runway which I would love to get. Besides creative designs, the clothes quality is absolutely flawless and it is tailored in a very professional way. The  photos of the shows I went to, you can see dawn below. Also, for my readers, I recorded video with lots of insides of the event and runways. Last but not least, I felt honored to be a part of MBFW Russia and will definitely attend the next season.
