Fashion Forward, Season 6
Fashion Forward (FFWD) is one of the biggest fashion events in the Middle East, which happens twice a year in Dubai. Many designers, buyers, bloggers and etc. come from all over the region to establish networks and get new ideas. I already wrote about my previous experience on Fashion Forward Season 5 when I was just a beginner. So on Season 6, I came already with an expectation and knowledge what will go on during three days of this journey. Attending this event for the second time and being Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger, I finally got accreditation as press. I was so happy that I didn’t need to stand in long queues and will sit next to the runway.
Moreover, this time, I had friends in the industry so it was more fun. In fact, even to get to know other people is much easier when you already have a company. So my network was expanding as well as the number of business cards in my purse.
Venue was in the same place as FFWD Season 5, Mina A’Salam 5 star hotel which is part of Jumeirah Group. Therefore, it was managed in a very luxurious manner. Every day was quite intense and fashion shows were from 13:00 till 00:00 following by after party till 03:00. I was attending most of the runways and getting knowledge of local popular brands. Many of them were quite strong and already known on international markets. Also, all day long were open a little market with accessories and smaller fashion brands during which any person could buy unique costume designed piece. I believe it was around 30 of such little stores.
The event was presenting Spring/Summer’16 collections of brands such as Zaroon by Zareena, The Starch Foundation, Hussein Bazaza, Michael Cinco, Amato, House of Nomad, Orkalia, Dima Ayad and many others.
Another interesting part of the event was speeches of different celebrities, founders or CEOs of popular brands such as Huda Beauty (Huda Heidi Kattan), The Sartorialist (Scott Schuman, NYC), MAC Cosmetics (Global Brand President Karen Bugles) and etc. Personally, I loved to attend these classes in between fashion shows. To listen and get advises of successful people are always helpful when you start something on your own.
Last but not least, as a blogger, I was invited for day 4 to Dubai Design District (D3) which was focused on meeting actual designers. After seeing their collection was pretty amazing to discuss my favorite pieces with them, get information on brand distribution and know how they started their journey.
So each day of FFWD 6 was very incensed, I was coming home around midnight full of amazing ideas inspired by lovely people I met during the day. If you love fashion I would strongly recommend you to visit this event.
